Meet Christy Knorr!

Christy Knorr is a hospice nurse and community advocate who has spent her entire life standing with people in their hardest moments. As a former welfare mom and longtime Omaha neighbor, she knows firsthand what working families are up against - the rising cost of basics, the struggle to access care, and systems that too often leave people behind. Now running for the Nebraska Legislature, Christy is driven by the same values that have guided her entire life: dignity, stability, and a belief that every family deserves a fair shot. Her lived experience fuels her commitment to a Nebraska where people aren’t fighting to survive, but finally have the support they need to thrive.

Policy Priorities

Christy's promise to you:

Putting Working Families First:

  • Lower costs for groceries, utilities, and prescription drugs so families can thrive, not just survive.
  • Protect and expand paid sick leave, ensuring no one has to choose between their health and their paycheck.
  • Defend voter-approved minimum wage increases, keeping wages in step with rising costs.
  • Protect reproductive freedom and ensure every Nebraskan can make personal healthcare decisions without political interference.
  • Guarantee dignity, safety, and equal rights for LGBTQ+ Nebraskans, including access to affirming healthcare and freedom from discrimination.

Building Strong Communities:

  • Invest in affordable housing, healthcare workers, and childcare, so parents and caregivers can work without going broke.
  • Cut property tax burdens responsibly, without sacrificing public schools or the essential services working families rely on.
  • Support legalizing and regulating marijuana in a way that fixes the delays and barriers Nebraska has faced in implementing its voter‑approved medical cannabis law. This includes holding the state accountable for delivering the program Nebraskans voted for, while generating new tax revenue to help balance the state budget, ease property tax burdens, and provide relief for working families.

Protecting Our Future:

  • Propose legislation that strengthens anti‑monopoly protections to prevent large corporations from dominating Nebraska’s agricultural markets, driving out family farmers, or avoiding accountability for environmental harm or major job loss in rural towns.
  • Confront well‑documented challenges in Nebraska’s agricultural system - including nitrate contamination, overuse of groundwater, and the strain industrial livestock operations place on rural communities.
  • Strengthen oversight of large corporations whose practices contribute to water pollution, soil degradation, or public health risks, ensuring they meet clear environmental standards.
  • Support family farmers and responsible producers by promoting sustainable practices, improving soil health, and protecting long‑term land and water quality.
  • Increase transparency and public reporting so Nebraskans can see how environmental decisions affect their communities, especially in areas impacted by high nitrate levels or industrial agriculture.
  • Prioritize policies that protect children, pregnant people, and vulnerable populations from environmental toxins linked to long‑term health issues.

Public Safety & Well‑Being

  • Strengthen Nebraska’s criminal justice system so it protects survivors, supports safe communities, and holds  serious offenders accountable.
  • Close loopholes in state law that allows individuals charged with felony sexual assault to plead down to a misdemeanor, ensuring consequences reflect the seriousness of the crime.
  • Support policies that expand mental health crisis response teams, social workers, and trained professionals who can de‑escalate situations and connect people with care.
  • Ensure law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, and dispatchers have the staffing, training, and resources they need to respond effectively and build strong relationships with the people they serve.
  • Invest in evidence‑based prevention programs, after‑school opportunities, and youth mentorship initiatives that reduce violence and create pathways for young people to succeed.
  • Address workforce shortages, modernize communication systems, and strengthen coordination across agencies so help arrives quickly when Nebraskans need it most.

Promoting Fiscal Responsibility

  • Statewide gambling expansion has reduced Keno revenue in cities like Ralston - funding that traditionally supports parks, public safety, critical infrastructure, and community services
  • Work with local municipalities to stabilize revenue and assess the financial effects of gambling expansion.
  • Explore fairer revenue‑sharing models so local communities can maintain essential services without raising costs on working families.
  • Demand transparency and accountability in government by researching Nebraska's state budget line-item by line-item, to weed out waste, fraud, and abuse.
